“Days Away”

Going home

Where you used

To hang your head

Looking at it now

With fresh eyes

How familiar

Your steps sending

The gravel into a

Tizzy the concrete

Cinder block around

The back still signed

By those who’d lived

There before one

Blinking garage light

And that weathered

Fence still wearing the

Yellow ivy leaves and red

Ladybugs your hands once

Painted.
